Thoughts about Harvest

October finds us in the middle of harvest season. Last Thursday, 19 October, I attended the monthly “Refresh” Meeting hosted by St. Francis church. St. Francis is one of the three sister churches in the Langley Church of England Parish.
The meeting is for the local community, as an outreach to senior citizens. They serve tea and refreshments, do a puzzle or activity. Then the leader shares a short lesson, based on Bible themes.
At the end of each session, they usually share a sheet of paper with quotes related to the theme on one side and Bible verses on the other.
I found the Quotes about Growing Things brought a smile to my face. So, I wanted to share them.
- “How do trees access the internet? They log in.”
- “Why did the tree fail at maths? Because it couldn’t do square roots!”
- “Anyone can count the seeds in an apple, but only God can count the number of apples in a seed.” Dr. Rev. Robert Schuller, American Pastor, teacher, author
- “Life expectancy would grow in leaps and bounds if green vegetable smelled as good as bacon.” Dough Larson, American columnist and editor
- “Accepting your own mortality is like eating your vegetables. You may not want to, but its good for you.” Caitlin Doughty, American mortician, author
- “Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad. “ Miles Kington, British journalist and musician
- “An optimist is a man who plants two acorns and buys a hammock.” Jean de Lattre de Tassigny, former Chief of Staff of the French Army
- “The best time to plan a tress was 200 years ago. The second best is now.” Chinese proverb.
- “One generation plants the tree, another gets the shade.” Chines Proverb.
- “Time flies like an arrow—but fruit flies like a banana.” Terry Wogan, British radio broadcaster.
Have a great week.
