30th September 2021–Recommitting

Autumn Roses

I’m sitting at my desk.  Visible from my window are billowing white clouds stacked up against the azure sky.  Some of those clouds present the possibility of a rain shower later.  A light breeze dances with the trees.  I love Autumn.  The leaves have yet to start changing colour, but the temperatures are mild, with a hint of chill.

I have recommitted to blogging, the result of beginning the Intentional Blogging course by Jeff Goins.  One of the questions that Jeff addresses is the question of “Who is My Audience?”  In the module of “Building Your Brand”, Jeff says:

“Imagine your ideal reader. Who are you writing for? Describe this person in three words or phrases.”

When I was writing “Angelee’s Dilemma”, I was writing for the romance genre. Thinking about writing this blog, I began thinking differently.  Pondering what I wanted to say, from deep in my heart, “my daughter” became the image in my mind.  Those who know me are aware that I have never experienced pregnancy and giving birth.  Yet, in the 1980’s the Lord spoke to my heart, that I would be a mother to many children who are not my own.  The people who filled my mind’s image were the young people in my life, who have called me “Mum/Mom”.  Some of them reading this will recognize themselves.  I love you all.

I want to explain why I pictured “my daughter.”  I am a daughter.  My mother and I were very close.  I look like her.  We shared the same disposition.  She was my biggest fan, and the most important person in my life, until I got married.  I wanted to have a daughter, so I could be on the “Mom” side of the equation.  Not that I didn’t want sons.  But I wanted to impart to “her” the heritage to my mother shared with me; to teach another young girl how to grow into a woman of faith—just like my mother had taught me.  In the Lord’s faithfulness, I also have spiritual sons.  Maybe they will find their way here too.

Along the way, I will share portions of my story.  I do know this, from a young child I have wanted to know Jesus and let others know of His great love for us.  The Father has given me the gift of the written word.  I so desire to use this gift to lead people to Him and encourage them to develop an intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit.

I believe the Lord gave me a promise from Psalm 68:11-12.  “The Lord gives the word [of power]; the women who bear and publish [the news] are a great host.  The kings of the enemies’ armies, they flee, they flee!  She who tarries at home divides the spoil left behind.”

So, I end this with a prayer for you, inspired by Psalm 37:4-6.

                Dearest Father,

Teach us what it means to delight in you.  Because as You lead us by your Spirit, you will give us the desires and secret petitions of our hearts.  We commit our way to You, Lord.  Teach us how to let go of all that burdens our hearts—to roll and repose each care of our load into Your care.  Help us to trust, (lean on, rely on, and be confident) in You.  As we do, we will see our desires come to pass.  As we learn to walk hand-in-hand with You, Father, cause our uprightness and right standing with Jesus to go forth as the light, and our justice and right as [the shining sun of] the noondays.  In Jesus Name, and for His sake we ask this.  Amen.
