Tuesday, 21st December 2021–Two Christmas memories…one is a gift.
I had a specific photo I wanted to scan to share. I came into my office, opened a drawer filled with photo albums. The particular one I wanted was not there. While searching through other picture books, with family photos, I found myself teary. Photos of my parents when they were young touched my heart.

I found a photo that I’d forgotten existed. As you know, I have written about how I learned to sew from my mother and grandmothers. But to show you the genetic connection is stronger than I realized, I am sharing a photo of my father.
In both the Navy and the Air Force, my father was a parachute rigger. That required the use of sewing machines. In this photo, it looks like Dad is working on some sort of vinyl cover. Dad made lots of practical things with his sewing machine.

This brings me to a Christmas memory, from 1968. We were living in California. That Christmas was memorable because my sister and I both got new, grown-up bikes. Also that was the year there was a seven-man tent under the tree. (Sears had sent us a 7-man tent instead of a 5-man tent. It was cheaper for them to let us keep the larger tent!)
Each family member got a brand-new sleeping bag. Those sleeping bags were in a specially made cover, with a toiletry kit on the end. Each sleeping bag cover had a special tag with a different colour on it so that we could tell at a glance whose sleeping bag it was.
The sleeping bag wore out, but I still have my cover! It is perfect for holding the quilt project I have in progress. And you can see a photo of it here.
In the early 1990’s I worked in an office. I met a young lady there named Patti Clum. I loved her Christmas cookies. She very kindly shared the recipe. So, now I’m sharing it with you. But you have to click on this link to have access to it. Patti Clum’s Cut Out Christmas Cookies.pdf
Have a marvelous Christmas. Remember, Emmanuel, God with us.
P.S. I still haven’t found the photo album with the photo I wanted. Oh well…

Do good to hear from you.
Hi Dalletta,
This is Teresa Allen (Cline) from Martinsville, Indiana. I happened to run across your blog and was so excited to see what you have been up to and in England no less! I would love to catch up with you and find out where your siblings are as well. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a great 2022. All of the Allen girls have such fond memories of when we spent time together with your parents. I have been reading your posts for about three months and decided to send you this email. Happy Boxing Day as well.
